For over thirty-nine years, Dan Sullivan has represented individuals, businesses and government entities in an extremely broad range of litigation matters. He has litigated cases in federal court and in over a dozen Pennsylvania counties, as well as practiced in mediations, arbitrations and administrative proceedings. He is also an experienced appellate attorney and has handled cases in Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court, Superior Court and Supreme Court, as well as in the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Dan focuses a significant portion of his current practice on representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in issues arising from the administration of estates and trusts and distribution of estate and trust assets. He also represents clients in sophisticated commercial disputes involving business transactions, employment contracts and covenants, and corporate and partnership organizational and control issues. Earlier in his career, Dan worked extensively in insurance defense cases, with an emphasis in medical malpractice defense. Throughout his career he has also represented personal injury plaintiffs in automobile accident and general negligence claims.
Dan’s services include pre-litigation counseling and litigation avoidance advice, negotiation and mediation of disputes where appropriate, and arbitration, trial and appellate proceedings. His broad courtroom experience includes both jury trials and bench trials, injunction and other equity proceedings, declaratory judgments, class actions, will contests, and all manner of motions practice and oral argument. Dan has been recognized by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© multiple times in the fields of Commercial Litigation and Litigation – Trusts & Estates. Mr. Sullivan was named The Best Lawyers© Harrisburg “Lawyer of the Year” for Litigation – Trusts & Estates in three of the past six years – 2016, 2018 and most recently in 2021. Only one lawyer in each practice area in each community is so honored each year.
For over twenty-five years Dan served as an Advocacy Fellow, teaching trial skills in the Trial Advocacy Program at Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law.
In 2017, Dan was certified as a life member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Members of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum must have acted as principal counsel in at least one case in which their client has received a verdict, award or settlement in the amount of $1,000,000 or more. Members of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum must be life members of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and must have acted as principal counsel in at least one case which has resulted in a multi-million dollar verdict, award or settlement.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Dan continues to cheer the Steelers (and lament the Pirates). In his spare time he enjoys relaxing with his family “down the shore” – particularly reading either World War II history on the beach or bedtime stories to his grandchildren.
